I just found a couple more Pixar movies with Tow Mater and Lightning McQueen! Pixar Short Films Collection Vol 2

Air Mater where Tow Mater decides to got o flying school

and Time Travel Mater where Tow Mater goes back in time to the founding of Radiator Springs and saves the town from not happening at all, by keeping Stanley Steamer at the springs, and starting a business

the time frame is made clear by the sepia tone for the 1910's, then black and white for the late 20's.. .and they show a Radiator Springs you haven't seen before, when it was just getting settled and started

And in color for the wedding which was after the settlement changed to a modern city with brick buildings

gas stations and gas company advertising, mostly 1930's and 40's

A footnote of interest in history, and I think a lot of people have forgetten, that during world war II, so many men in America were drafted into the military, that in order to keep American jobs alive, and to make munitions, tanks, airplanes, and so many of the suddenly necessary things that fighting the war created a need for, women stopped being treated like domestic prisoners. They even formed a baseball league, since the majority of the baseball players were drafted (See the movie "A League Of Their Own")

Above, good design thinking, why not have the gas station provide shade for the mechanics, cars, and customers? Not just shade, but shelter from rain and snow!

Some time ago, the company Montgomery Ward was like Target. It operated from 1872 to 2001. Then couldn't figure out how to compete with online companies like Amazon.com that had taken it's business model of mail order goods, and improved on it  to where it and the other competition have put Sears, Montgomery Ward, and Kmart out of business or through bankruptcy. Montgomery Ward was so influential, they invented Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. The mail order catalog was deemed as influential on American life as the Websters dictionary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_Ward

The above is in Portland Oregon, and has been going through a restoration

once an electric car garage, a bldg in Santa Ana has been a home to the Packards International Motor Car Club

the bldg is also the business location for Custom Auto Service, aka Packard Palace. I know where I'm stopping by next time I'm in Santa Ana!

Learned about it from the always amazing Hagerty newsletter http://www.hagerty.com/classic-car-articles-resources/Features/News/All-Articles/2013/01/07/Robert-Escalante?utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_medium=email&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=Hagerty%20Weekly%20News%2001-07-2013

Mickey, mouse of unlimited possibilites

I'm pretty sure this is the artwork of a talented graphic designer, but I can't even guess who. I don't think it's Disney licensed, but I think the the vehicle representations are right on cool

Found on http://fifties50s.blogspot.com

What happened to the ideas about flying cars? Beni Bichof has a design idea. Old Mopars. Why not?

I think he may have decided that the faster you fly, the less cool air flowing into the radiator you need, and more lights are necessary http://flaviendachet.blogspot.de/2012/06/handicapped-cars-by-beni-bischof.html

I found a fun photo site the celebrates Americana and the wonder years of the 40's 50's and 60's

How come I've never seen any barber shop with this genius approach to kids haircuts?
was also posted on Fifties50s.blogspot at another post about the cool old collectible stuff at Rosmalend Holland http://fifties50s.blogspot.com/2012/10/rosmalen-rock-around-jukebox-octobre.html where the vendors were charging 2 to 3 times the value of things according to the blogger, and I am pretty sure by the amount of focus on collectibles, he's an expert. Awesome photo gallery coverage of so many collectible events, like Hersheys etc etc

How did this train get into this predicatment?

Rare photo of the Honolulu Clipper out of the water, for other Clipper photos http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2012/04/hawaii-clipper-1930s-photos-from-wj-he.html
